HOW DID YOU ENGAGE WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WHILE ABROAD?
I engaged with the local community while abroad in many ways. I found my teachers a great source to use to engage with the local community in Florence. My Italian teacher was wonderful, and she helped us make connections such as with the couple that owned the oldest jewelry store in Florence that still hand-made their metal and material pieces. Though they didn't speak English, they were so welcoming and she helped introduce us to them and their craft. Another amazing thing I di was go to the Jazz Festival in Florence, which was out of the area we lived in and was mainly locals. It was a great way to feel integrated with the community and hear some of their music and culture.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS WHILE ABROAD, AND WHY? (IF YOU INTERNED ABROAD YOU CAN USE THIS SPACE TO TELL US ABOUT YOUR INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE IF YOU PREFER)
My favorite class I took abroad was an Iconography art history class. I genuinely learned so much about the history of Catholicism in the country, and what we learned about the art, history, and religion allowed me to go into museums and churches and understand the scenes depicted and their meaning. When I went with friends and family, I was able to describe the scenes on the wall and what they meant, which was so amazing and really enhanced my cultural experience.
